Cash-for-jobs: Candidate paid 12L to Burwan MLA, says CBI charge sheet

Kolkata: Filing charge sheet in the cash-for-jobs case, the CBI on Tuesday annexed excerpts of a purported WhatsApp chat between Trinamool Burwan MLA Jiban Krishna Saha and TET 2016 candidate Dipak Das. Saha had allegedly taken Rs 12 lakh from Das, promising him a teaching post.Investigators claimed they came across the chat after deciphering data from the MLA’s phone that he had thrown in a nearby pond during questioning at his Andi home. The agency also found Das’s name in the notebook it had seized from Saha’s alleged agent Ali Imam. The charge sheet says that Saha had also warned a candidate of police action when he wanted his money back.The 24-page charge sheet also claims that accused Tapas Mandal had collected Rs 4.12 crore from 141 undeserving candidates while Kuntal Ghosh mopped up Rs 3.13 crore from 71 candidates.The agency also takes into account the money four teachers from Murshidabad had given to Mandal. The four teachers in jail custody — Saigar Hossain, Saugata Mandal, Jahiruddin Sheikh and Simar Hossain — gave Rs 22 lakh for the jobs. The charge sheet mentions another teacher — Ashiq Ahmed — who is yet to be arrested.The CBI has summoned seven teachers from Bankura for questioning at Nizam Palace on Wednesday.
