Kolkata: Trinamool general secretary
Abhishek Banerjee has sought 10 days' time for submission of detailed building-plan drawings to Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) buildings department executive engineers, said municipal commissioner Smita Pandey on Sunday. The appeal reached the KMC buildings department through Banerjee's lawyer, KMC sources said. However, his lawyers may visit KMC this week, sources added.
KMC executive engineers from three boroughs sent notices to 17 properties across boroughs VIII, IX and X that were either owned or co-owned by Banerjee, his family or his company. "He has sought 10 days for submission of necessary documents. We are looking into the matter," Pandey said.
Of the 17 buildings, two are in Panditya and adjoining areas, one is near New Alipore, and the remaining are in borough IX across Harish Mukherjee Road, Kalighat and Bhowanipore.
Among them is Shantiniketan, where the notice directs those concerned to appear before the borough building department's executive engineer (borough IX) with the sanctioned plan drawing. A fresh drawing reflecting subsequent alterations will also have to be submitted. "The owners or co-owners have been asked to appear at three borough offices and submit fresh drawings of alterations made in the past few years. We will then give the owners an opportunity to appear for a hearing. Based on its outcome, the future course of action will be taken," said a KMC official.
Trinamool Congress sources said the Banerjee family may move court.
