Modi filed case against Amul head for helping Maha farmers: Pawar
Kolhapur: NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of filing a police case against the head of Amul dairy for helping Maharashtra in providing forage fodder to the farmers during drought.Speaking at Karmala in Madha Lok Sabha constituency on Friday, Pawar hit out at the policies adopted by PM Modi which he claimed have ruined the lives of farmers.“Maharashtra had a severe drought situation around 10 years ago. The cattle here could not eat dried fodder as it was leading to injuries to their mouth. We decided to get experts from Gujarat-based Amul to help us out and save our livestock. The head of Amul helped Maharashtra govt get cattle feed. In response to this, the then chief minister, who is now the PM of India, slapped a case against the Amul head. Was it a crime to send feed for drought-affected animals? Modi is the PM now and I doubt he has any faith in the farmers,” Pawar said.Later, while speaking at Sangola, Pawar said Modi has adopted policies that have devastated the small farmers. “Around 70% of India’s population is into agriculture and most of them are small farmers. The recent decision to revoke export ban on white onions will not help as it comprises only 20% of the total onion production. Most of the farmers produce red onions and they have faced huge losses due to this decision,” Pawar said. The NCP (SCP) chief also blamed the central govt for decline in the prices of milk. He also said that ban on production of ethanol has hurt the sugar industry which in turn has affected the farmers growing sugar cane. “Maharashtra produces maximum amount of sugar along with Uttar Pradesh. First the sugar export was banned and then restrictions were imposed on ethanol production. Producing ethanol helps the mills get additional revenue which in turn helps the farmers get good price for their produce,” he said.Pawar also slammed the state govt for not holding local body elections. “Elections for the local bodies have not take place for the past three years. Polls for grampanchayat, block panchayat and zilla parishad need to held. Many from across the world are worried whether any elections will be held if Modi comes to power again. Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure how BJP candidates are defeated” said Pawar.‘Rahul an upcoming leader’In the evening, Pawar attended a rally in Pandharpur organised for Praniti Shinde, Congress candidate for Solapur LS seat. Here Pawar hailed Rahul Gandhi as “Ubharta Neta” (upcoming leader). “He (Rahul Gandhi) is referred as “Shehzada” and mocked by the PM Modi in every speech. Rahul went from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. He met people and understood their pain and suffering. I want to tell the PM that if you cannot praise any opposition member, then the least you can do is refrain from mocking them,” Pawar said.
