Rehana Fathima hails HC verdict as ‘historic’

Kochi: Activist Rehana Fathima on Tuesday said in a Facebook post that the observation of the Kerala High Court on Monday that 'nudity and obscenity are not always synonymous, was a historic one.
The court observed while discharging her from a case against her for circulating a video in which she was seen posing semi-nude for her minor children, allowing them to paint on her body.
Rahana posted on FB that Monday was a very happy day for her because of the order. She said that she ended up in jail for 15 days when nudity was seen through the eyes of the public without even considering the politics that she had written in the description of the video posted online in June 2020.
She said that a historic verdict was given out three years later when the issue was seen from the court’s perspective and it could make the future generation understand the politics of the body.
She also thanked all who supported her in the legal battle. She said that the verdict should be given appropriate seriousness so that the so-called protectors of morality cannot waste the three years of another woman or her children by misinterpreting nudity. She said that the future generation should be given the same message that “Nudity is not obscenity”.
