Police play it safe on allegation against ED

Kochi: City police have taken a cautious approach towards the petition filed by CPM local body member P R Aravindakshan alleging that enforcement directorate (ED) officials physically assaulted him during his questioning in connection with the Karuvannur bank fraud case.Police have not yet registered a case on the complaint filed by Aravindakshan, who is a CPM councillor and health standing committee chairman of the Wadakkanchery municipality. A senior officer with the city police said on Saturday that this was not a matter on which an action could be taken in a rush since it involves another investigative agency. An officer with central police said that a decision was yet to be taken on how to go forward with the case even as a legal opinion on the matter was awaited.Aravindakshan had filed the complaint with the Ernakulam central police on Wednesday. He also got himself admitted to a hospital alleging that he was beaten up by the ED officials. The cops visited the ED office in Kochi soon after receiving the complaint, but no action was initiated even as officials said that the enquiry was going on.It is learnt that the sensitive nature of the Karuvannur case in which CPM senior leaders are facing allegations was another reason for the cautious approach of the police. Registration of cases by police against the ED officials during the Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case investigation, only to be eventually quashed by the High Court could be another reason for the careful approach this time.

Doon land records fraud: Police file case against 2 unidentified for alleged forgery

Two cases have been registered in Dehradun against unidentified individuals for fraud and forgery in land registry records. The cases were filed based on complaints from the assistant inspector general at the deputy registrar's office. The suspects allegedly forged land records for properties dating back to 1979 and 1989. During document scrutiny, it was discovered that the transfer of property documents were fake. The investigation is ongoing.

The complaints allege that the suspects forged land records for two properties dating back to 1979 and 1989, including the sale of a property that was found to be fake upon examination of the transfer of property documents. Similar irregularities were also detected in another set of land registry documents.

CPM councillor alleges torture by ED, files plaint

CPM councillor Aravindakshan has filed a complaint with the Kochi city police, alleging that he was tortured by the enforcement directorate (ED) during questioning in connection with the Karuvannur cooperative bank fraud. Aravindakshan claims that the ED asked him to sign papers implicating senior party leaders in money transactions. The police are awaiting instructions on how to proceed with the complaint. This move by Aravindakshan is seen by some as an attempt to hinder the ongoing probe, as the ED has summoned MLA A C Moideen for questioning in relation to the bank scam.
