Kochi: Chief minister
Pinarayi Vijayan asked CPM leaders to do rigorous ‘homework' in the coming days. At the state secretariat meeting of the party held a couple of days ago, it was observed that Kerala assembly polls is a tight fight and party leaders need to focus on household visits if victory to get an absolute majority in the state is to be secured.
The LDF's sure seats would be around 55 and the front can win if focused work is done in the rest of the constituencies. "Though there are chances for the LDF retaining power, much legwork is needed for achieving the goal. The leaders from the local committee level should visit households every day and each team should focus on three booths in their areas," sources with the CPM said. Vijayan said at the state secretariat meeting that household visit is one of the most important modes of campaign to ensure success.
Though the leaders from different parts of the state presented a rosy picture regarding the prospects of the LDF candidates in the constituencies in their areas, they couldn't substantiate their claims. Absence of proper household visits and legwork was evident in the words of many such leaders. It was then the chief minister asked the leaders to see that local leaders and party workers visit each household in their areas and interact with the voters personally. "We have already started household visits. We conduct such visits in the early morning and evening. We visit around 1,000 households a day," an LDF candidate from Ernakulam district said.
"The response from the voters is positive and we will be continuing household visits until the last leg of the campaign," the candidate said.
