Man arrested for attacking police

Kochi: Aluva police arrested a 28-year-old man after he allegedly attacked a civil police officer who was on night patrol duty near UC College in Aluva on Monday morning.

The accused has been identified as Mohammed Aslam, 28, a native of Thrissur.

According to police, the patrol team spotted the accused around 2.20am near the college and questioned him. He suddenly turned violent and assaulted the officer without any provocation, said police.

The man also allegedly smashed the front door glass of the police vehicle. Other officers then overpowered him and later arrested him.

Attack at juice shop: Ernakulam Central police arrested two men who allegedly forcibly entered a juice shop named Juice Mafia in Valanjambalam and threatened the staff.

The accused allegedly threatened the staff with a knife and caused damage worth Rs 15,000.

The arrested individuals are Sachin Suresh, 28, of Vellakinar, and Bichu A L of Arattuvazhi, Alappuzha. The incident that led to the case occurred on May 31. Video of the accused causing the ruckus has been widely shared on social media. The video shows the accused shouting at those in the shop and kicking a table around which customers are sitting, causing it to break.

Police said that Sachin is accused of theft and drug-related cases. The accused were presented in court and have been remanded.
