KOCHI: As part of the efforts to ensure quality of drinking water supplied in the city, the health officials from Kochi Corporation seized one unauthorised lorry for supplying potable water on Thursday.
The inspection was conducted at three major entry points to the city –Vytilla and Palarivatto with the help of police.
The corporation has informed that they have handed over the seized vehicle to the police.
A total of six vehicles were intercepted at Palarivattom and eight vehicles were raided at Vytilla. The seized lorry was taken into custody from Palarivattom.
The members of the health squad included health supervisor, V K Thampy; health inspectors- B Sasi Kumar, M P Manmadan, Suresh, PR Prasad, K Jayakumar; Junior health inspectors-A Noushad, Noushad M N , T K Giri, Rajendran, Satishkumar, James and Shyam.
The tanker lorry operators were given deadline till June 25 to comply with the regulations imposed by the local body. The corporation had found that around 400 vehicles were involved in distributing water in the city. Out of the 260 applications received, the civic body had issued licence to 257 tanker lorries.
