Kerala: Violence breaks out after BJP rally in Tanur

MALAPPURAM

: Four persons including three BJP workers were injured in a clash between

BJP and SDPI workers

during BJP's victory rally at Tanur town on Thursday night.


The injured have been identified as BJP workers Mani, Pranav, Prashanth and Nalakath Shafi. They have been admitted to various hospitals in

Kottakkal and Kozhikode

.

According to police, violence broke out after the rally of BJP workers reached near railway station road. Police suspect that the provocation from the part of a group of people in a fruit stall, led to the clash between two groups.

After the clash, the violent mob unleashed attack on fruit shop and they damaged a motorbike and a car parked in the area. Police resorted to lathi charge and lobbed tear gas shells to disburse mob which unleashed violence. A police vehicle was damaged in the stone pelting during the clash. It is alleged that stones were also pelted against a mosque in the town. Shops were closed down after the violence.

BJP leaders are alleging that it was an SDPI worker who came out of fruit stall in the town stabbed the party workers during the victory rally. But Shafi is alleging that he was stabbed by BJP and RSS workers.

A police team led by CI of Tanur M A Sidhique and sub inspector Sumesh Sudhakar was deployed in the region.
