Kerala mountaineer rescued from US peak

Kottayam: The Pathanamthitta native who was stranded while mountaineering in the US was rescued, his family have said.According to the information received by mountaineer Shaikh Hasan Khan's family in Pandalam in Pathanamthitta district, a special team rescued Khan, who was stranded on Mount Denali in Alaska, US. He is being taken to the base camp in Denali. Khan spoke to his parents over the phone on Thursday morning.MP Anto Antony, state finance minister KN Balagopal, and Union minister George Kurien intervened for the rescue of Khan, who is an employee in the finance department at the Secretariat. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan also wrote to the Prime Minister regarding the matter.Denali is the highest mountain peak in North America, which is a popular destination for mountaineering and wildlife viewing. Shaikh got stranded there following strong winds. Shaikh sent a message that the food and water stock was limited. He was reportedly stranded at a height of 17,000 km above sea level.Shaikh has conquered several mountain peaks across the world.
