Govt will conserve Premji’s house: Min

Thrissur: Government will try to

conserve

the house of social reformer and actor MP Bhattathiripad (Premji), said minister VS Sunilkumar. The house, which hosted numerous discussions on anti-establishment campaigns during the freedom struggle and post-Independence period, was on the verge of collapse after a nearby tree fell on it during incessant rain on Sunday.

Sunilkumar said he had spoken to the minister in charge of cultural affairs on preserving the house. Premji’s son, Neelan, has agreed that government can conserve the house and the adjoining land, located near the railway gate at Ponkunnam station, he added.

Premji purchased the property while he was working at Mangalodayam Press, after his marriage. The house was the meeting point of several leaders from socio-cultural fields and the hideout of communist activists when the party was banned. Veteran CPI leader C Achutha Menon was among those who stayed here then. The house was given on rent in the recent period as family members had moved out to other places
