Driver killed as truck overturns into canal

Kottayam: A truck driver was killed after his vehicle lost control, overturned and fell into a canal in Kuthirapanthy on Alappuzha bypass around 5:30am on Wednesday.The vehicle of Justin, 50, a native of Kottiyam in Kollam district, lost control, crashed into several electric posts and fell into a drainage canal along the road. Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing the loud sound.The driver was found trapped inside the cabin. The cabin was broken open and Justin was rushed to Alappuzha medical college hospital. However, his life could not be saved.The truck was carrying steel bars from the manufacturing unit at Kanjikode in Palakkad to Kottiyam. Police suspect that the driver must have dozed off, leading to the accident.The deceased is survived by his wife Elizabeth, who is working in Dubai, and children Jily Justin and Jithu Justin, both students.
