Dad, uncle sexually abuse minor girl

Idukki: A six-year-old girl was sexually abused by her father and uncle for the past one-and-half years in Marayoor in Idukki.
Police arrested the 42-year-old father of the minor girl and have intensified the search for the uncle who is absconding.
According to police, the father started to sexually abuse the daughter from the age of four-and-half years. When the mother came to know about the sexual abuse, she shifted the girl to a child care center.During the holidays, the child care center officials asked the mother to take back the child. But the mother refused and informed them about the sexual abuse.
The child care center authorities alerted Childline and later the police arrested the father. During counseling the child said that her uncle also sexually abused her, said police. A case was registered against him too.
Munnar deputy SP K R Manoj told TOI that the girl’s father has been slapped with rape and Posco charges. “The search is continuing for the 44-year-old uncle of the girl,” he said.
District child protection officer Geetha MG said that the girl is now under the mother’s care. “The district child protection unit provided counseling to the girl,” she said.
Joseph Augustine, chairman of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Idukki, said that the CWC has sought a report from police in connection with the incident.
“We will take further steps to ensure the protection of the child after getting the report,” he said.
