KOCHI: Around 200 contemporary art works by 34 artists including 16 women, across the state are presenting wide verities of themes at the 'Idam' exhibition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale which began at Durball Hall, Kochi on Wednesday.
The themes presented in the exhibition varies from 'Mass culling of street dogs' to 'Depth of Emotions'. Idam, an exclusive exhibition of art works for Kerala artists is the latest addition to Biennale, as part of its tenth anniversary edition.
The installations that use various modern media, sculptures of differing aspects, paintings and photographs under various themes make the exhibition a divergent one.
When a painting describes that nature is the mother place of all forms of being and not just a template to carry out exercises of power by the human species, an installation speaks about how clay goes beyond its unique features by reflecting the emotions of sculptors. Curation of nature as forms of different natural objects is one of the major attractions of the exhibition.
The exhibition was conceptualized by artists and curators Gigi Scaria, Radha Gomathy and P S Jalaja. Sharing her experience and expectations as one of the curators, Radha Gomathy said that 'Idam' is expected to find a major space in Biennale, along with the other art works from different parts of the world.
At the inaugural function, Biennale Foundation president Bose Krishnamachari, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi chairperson Murali Cheeroth and secretary Balamuralikrishnan honoured the curators. The exhibition will continue till April 10.
