Bobbitised swami gets infection, seeks bail for treatment

KOCHI: The godman who was bobbitised, allegedly by a 23-year-old

female law student

, has sought bail before the Kerala high court citing infection on his

mutilated private part

.

During the hearing on a

bail plea

filed by the 54-year-old swami,

Gangesananda Theerthapadar

aka Hari Swami, his counsel told the court that the swami has developed an infection at the private part.

Seeking bail on the basis of sickness, the counsel submitted that there is every chance of the infection getting worsened if the swami continues in custody. If bail is allowed, he can be admitted to the pay ward of the hospital where he is availing treatment. In such circumstances, bail should be allowed, the counsel argued.

After considering the submission, the court directed prosecution to submit a

medical report

regarding the health condition of the petitioner and posted the case for further hearing on July 27th.

The swami was arrested from a hospital after he sought medical treatment following the bobbitising. In her statement before police, the law student had said she bobbitised him to foil his bid to rape her and that he had raped her before too. However, she had changed her stance later and said the swami had not raped her. Police had then approached a court seeking permission for conducting a lie-detector test on her while she filed a petition seeking a CBI probe and alleging that she doesn’t have faith in local police. The swami is under judicial custody now.
