Akademi fellowship for Basheer, Prabhakaran; Shinilal bags novel award

Thrissur: Literary critic M M Basheer and novelist N Prabhakaran have been selected for the Kerala Sahitya Akademi fellowships while six others – Sreekrishnapuram Krishnankutty, Pallippuram Murali, K P Sudheera, Rathi Saxena, John Samuel and P K Sukumaran – won the awards for contribution to Malayalam literature.
Akademi president K Satchidanandanand and other office-bearers announced the awards and fellowships for 2022 at a news conference here on Friday.
The fellowships carry a cash prize of Rs 50,000, gold medal weighing two sovereigns, citation and ponnada. The awards for total contribution include a cash prize of Rs 30,000, citation, plaque and ponnada. These awards are given to writers aged above 60 who have made significant contribution to Malayalam literature, Satchidanandan said.
The other award winners included N G Unnikrishnan (poetry), V Shinilal (novel), P F Mathews (short story), Emil Madhavi (theatre).
