25-year-old man jumps into riverto make reel, feared drowned

Kanpur: A 25-year-old man was feared drowned after he jumped into a river to create social media reel in Hamirpur district on Friday.Dulichandra Pal of Gohani village in Hamirpur informed the police that his son Ramkumar had gone to take a bath in Virma river on Friday morning.According to eyewitnesses, Ramkumar jumped off the bridge into Virma river to make a social media reel of the act. When Ramkumar did not come out of the river, his companions raised an alarm.A huge crowd gathered at the spot and blocked the bridge to stage a protest. Police used mild force to control the situation. Sub-divisional magistrate Abhimanyu Kumar and naib tehsildar Dhanendra Kumar also reached the spot.A search team was called from Lucknow to locate Ramkumar. He could not be tracked till reports last came in.Inspector Umesh Kumar Singh said, "A 12-member team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Lucknow is looking after the rescue operation. Ramkumar was employed at a private company in Gurugram and had come home on Thursday evening to celebrate Diwali."
