A police team had reached Rajeshwari Devi’s home on Wednesday and arrested her son Nitendra on a complaint of assault lodged by a local -Ram Shankar.

In his complaint, Ram Shankar had alleged that Nitendra had thrashed him severely when he was accidentally hit by his bike.

Nitendra’s mother couldn’t bear the shock of her son’s arrest and died of heart attack, on Thursday night.

Later, her family members, along with local residents, staged a protest keeping the woman’s body in front of Narwal police station on late Thursday night and demanded immediate action against the accused policemen and Ram Shankar. Senior police officials reached the spot and pacified the agitating family members. Inspector Rambabu Singh said that a non cognizable report was registered against Nitendra on the complaint of Ram Shankar. The allegation of police harassment is baseless, said the official adding the old lady was already ill, on Thursday she complained of high blood pressure and later succumbed. He further said that on the complaint of Nitendra, a case is being registered against Ram Shankar and sons Ankit, Abhishek, Devi Ghulam and Vijay Singh.
