Two women killed, four injured after SUV collided with e-rickshaw

Kanpur: A speeding SUV collided with an e-rickshaw near village Aladadpur on Achra Road in the Kotwali area on Saturday evening, killing two women on the spot and injuring four others, police said.
The e-rickshaw was driven by Haseen (54), a resident of Pitoura village. Devwati (50), a resident of village Pilkhana under Thana Merapur area, was returning home with her granddaughter Anshika (11) after dropping her daughter Renu at village Chilauli. Also travelling in the e-rickshaw was Sudha (50), along with her daughter Lovely (20) and Rajat (27).
Lovely had come to Kaimganj with her mother Sudha in connection with some work and were on their way back.
Police said that near village Aladadpur, a speeding SUV coming from the direction of Achra rammed into the e-rickshaw. The impact was so severe that the SUV went out of control and plunged into a field on the roadside.
Devwati and Sudha died on the spot, while all other e-rickshaw occupants were injured. They were referred to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital from CHC Kaimganj.
Following the incident, three occupants of the SUV, including the driver, fled the scene. On receiving information, Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi and inspector-in-charge Vinod Kumar Shukla reached the spot. Police sent both bodies for post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation.
