Kanpur: A 16-year-old girl died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance in Niwari village in the Kalpi Kotwali area of Jalaun district, police said on Wednesday.
According to police, the girl, a Class VIII student came from Orai to stay at her maternal uncle’s house in Niwari village during the summer holidays.
On Tuesday, she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance under suspicious circumstances, after which her condition deteriorated. Family members rushed her to a hospital in a critical condition, but she died during the treatment.
Kalpi Kotwali Inspector, In-charge, Ajay Brahm Tiwari said that prima facie, the case appeared to be one of poisonous substance consumption, but the reason behind the suicide was not yet ascertained.
He added that the police is questioning family members, and further action will be taken after the post-mortem report is received.
