Kanpur: Rura police in Kanpur Dehat have arrested a warrant absconder who had been on the run for 22 years. The accused, 69-year-old Maan Singh of Sumerpur village, was apprehended near the village on Friday.
A case was registered against him in 2004 under IPC sections 323, 504 and 506 for voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, and criminal intimidation. Despite repeated court summons, he failed to appear for hearings and remained a fugitive. A warrant was issued against him for defying court orders, following which police launched a sustained campaign to trace him.
Rura police station in-charge Sudhir Bhardwaj said, “The warrant absconder was produced before the court as per procedure and sent to jail.”
