IIT-K organises metals & materials quiz

The Indian Institute of Metals, Kanpur chapter, and the department of materials and metallurgical engineering of IIT-K (Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur) jointly organised a quiz competition.

KANPUR: The Indian Institute of Metals, Kanpur chapter, and the department of materials and metallurgical engineering of IIT-K (Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur) jointly organised a quiz competition on Sunday.
While welcoming the participants, Dr Bikramjit Basu, chairperson, IIM-Kanpur chapter, imparted important information about the quiz and the activities of IIM Kanpur chapter.

On behalf of the department, Professor Dipak Mazumdar, head of department of materials and metallurgical engineering welcomed the participants. This is the 10th time in a row that the metals and materials quiz has been organised at IIT-Kanpur.
This year, altogether 15 teams from 11 different schools from in and around Kanpur participated in the competition. Following an initial elimination around, eight teams were shortlisted for the final round. In the final round, the team from Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Kanpur, represented by Varun Harbola and Aniruddha Ghosh, was declared the winner. The winning team was awarded cash prize and NK Batra Memorial Trophy by Professor Dipak Mazumdar. The team from Kendriya Vidyalaya Armapore II, comprising Divyanshu Kumar and Deepak Sharma, was declared the first runner-up. All the participants were given the participation certificate by Dr Pritha Choudhury, head, department of materials science, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur.
Dr K Mondal, secretary, IIM Kanpur chapter, informed that the winner team and first runner-up will now participate in the Prof Brahm Prakash Memorial Quiz Competition at national level to be held at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam (Tamil Nadu) on September 19.
On this occasion, Prof Anish Upadhyaya, a faculty member of the department of materials and metallurgical engineering, IIT Kanpur, delivered a talk on powder metallurgical processing of materials for engineering applications.
