, had delivered the male child, her fifth, in the bank premises.

Sarvesha's baby had been due any day when demonetisation was announced. "It was on December 2 that Khazanchi Nath was born, when his mother had gone to withdraw money from Punjab National Bank in Jhinjhak area of the district," said the uncle, Anil Nath, adding, "I named him Khazanchi Nath as he survived the curse of demonetisation."

The bank manager, S K Chaudhary, told TOI that Sarvesha Devi, who had come to withdraw cash to deposit the instalment of her Lohia Awas loan, had been standing in the queue since 11 am. "She was brought to the bank by her mother-in-lawdespite her pregnancy," he said.

He added that as soon as Sarvesha went into labour, the locals called the "108" ambulance service. But when her labour pains grew unbearable, the women customers surrounded her and helped her deliver the baby.
