Admin bans parking outside schools along major routes

Kanpur: In a bid to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety, the district administration on Monday directed that school buses and private vehicles of parents must not be parked on roads in front of schools located along major routes.Chairing a road safety committee meeting, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said that staff deployment at school gates during opening and closing hours will be ensured to manage traffic flow. A revised schedule for 81 schools has also been finalised, which will come into effect from April 1, 2026, to streamline transportation.The DM said schools had already been informed and were expected to strictly comply with the new guidelines. He also announced a special drive from April 1 to April 15 to inspect school vehicles. Teams from the Transport Department will visit institutions, and details of vehicles will be uploaded on a designated portal. Schools have also been directed to hold regular meetings of their Vehicle Operations Committees and maintain proper records.During the meeting, PWD Executive Engineer Arun Kumar Jayant informed that 14 illegally constructed shops along GT Road were removed recently, adding that such drives will continue to ensure smooth traffic movement.The issue of congestion caused by liquor shops in Ramadevi and Naramau was also discussed. Officials said notices have already been issued to shop owners to remove encroachments, failing which legal action will be taken. Traffic disruptions due to roadside vegetable markets near Ramadevi also came under review.The district magistrate further directed officials to prepare a proposal for constructing a foot-over bridge near ALIMCO. He also emphasised the need for wider awareness of schemes like Rahveer Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana among the public.
