3 denied bail in codeine cough syrup case
Kanpur: An Additional Sessions Court on Saturday dismissed the bail applications of three accused — Shivam Agarwal and Prabhat Khare, along with the anticipatory bail plea of Surabhi Srivastava — in the Collectorganj codeine cough syrup case.According to Bhaskar Mishra, additional district govt counsel, Agarwal brothers, a pharmaceutical company of Collectorganj area, had purchased around 31,15,065 Codeine based cough syrup from nine companies, and soldaround 30 lakh bottles to several fake companies.During investigation it was found that some of the companies that had purchased the syrups had closed their business a couple of years ago, while the address of several companies were found fake or not existing. Some of them were not even not registered.All the three accused in their bail application pleaded that they were innocent and framed in this case. They contended that they were not named in the FIR, but the police registered a case against them.The presiding judge however, after hearing the arguments dismissed their bail application.
