Jodhpur: More than 12 years after the horrific abduction and murder of Bhanwari Devi on September 1, 2011, her family continues to run from pillar to post to obtain her death certificate. Sahil, Bhanwari Devi’s son, has been tirelessly navigating through bureaucratic hurdles to procure the death certificate, which is essential for claiming the rightful dues of her service as a nursing midwife.The denial continues even after the high court’s directive in Jan this year to the registrar (birth & death) and the deputy director (economics & statistics) to furnish the applicant with the certificate.Bhanwari Devi’s murder had sent shockwaves through the state due to involvement of two prominent Congress leaders, Mahipal Maderna and Malkhan Singh Bishnoi. Sahil, though, has failed to secure even the death certificate of his mother, which will entitle him to receive her pension and service benefits. “We had approached the high court with a plea to assist us in obtaining the death certificate, as the CBI had unequivocally declared her demise in court long ago. The high court ruled in our favour, instructing the govt to provide us with the requisite certificate in Jan this year,” Sahil’s counsel, Bhawani Singh Bhalasaria, said.“We have issued a legal notice to district registrar (birth & death), deputy director (economics & statistics), Pipar City tehsildar, and officials of Borunda GP, where she resided,” Bhalasaria said.
