Release Adityapur doctor accused of minor’s death: Indian Medical Association
JAMSHEDPUR: A large section of city-based doctors under the banner of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Jamshedpur chapter, voiced their anger against the arrest of Dr Abhishek Kumar of Adityapur-based Shiva Nursing Home on charges of dereliction of duty that led to the death of a minor girl on January 10.
Aradhya Kumari (10), the daughter of Sailesh Jha of Adityapur area, was admitted to Shiva Nursing Home with a fractured leg on January 4. During the course of treatment, the minor’s condition deteriorated and she died on January 10.
The secretary of IMA-Jharkhand chapter, Dr Saurabh Chaudhury, said Dr Abhishek was arrested on January 10 under Section 304 of the IPC on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s parents with Seraikela-Kharsawan police. The exact cause of the minor’s death is not known as the post-mortem examination was not performed. So how can Dr Abhishek be held guilty of a crime which is yet to be proved, questioned Dr Chaudhury. A medical board should have been constituted to probe if Dr Abhishek was guilty of dereliction of duty. Action should have been taken based on the probe report, he added.
Confirming the vandalism incident at the nursing home by a mob after the minor’s death, manager Durga Prasad on Monday said no complaint has been lodged by the hospital authorities in this regard.
