JAMSHEDPUR: Train services on the Howrah-Mumbai route were affected on Monday — five trains were diverted, two short-terminated and three cancelled — due to an indefinite rail roko agitation at the Bisra railway station under the Chakradharpur division.
People residing near of Bisra station in Odisha, adjoining West Singhbhum, demanding halting of mail and express trains at the station squatted on tracks at the station.
The Bisra Public Action Committee, which is spearheading the agitation, is demanding that all passenger trains that used to halt at Bisra before the Covid-19, should resume halt at the station.
Chakradharpur division officials said Chakradharpur-Rourkela-Chakradharpur (08163/08164) Saranda MEMU and Rourkela-Chakradharpur-Rourkela Special (08107/08108) besides Tata-Itwari (18109) trains were cancelled for the day.
Further, the Mumbai-Howrah Gitanjali Express (12869) was diverted through Rourkela-Hatia-Bokaro-Adra-Midnapore route instead of the regular Rourkela-Chakradharpur-Tatanagar route. Ahmedabad-Howrah Superfast Express (12833) was diverted through Rourkela-Hatia-Muri-Purulia-Sini-Tatanagar route instead of the regular Rourkela-Chakradharpur-Tatanagar route.
The Rishikesh-Puri Utkal Express (18478) was diverted via the Rourkela-Muri-Hatia-Sini-Tatanagar route instead of the regular Rourkela-Chakradharpur-Tatanagar route.
Similarly, the Puri-Rishikesh Utkal Express (18477) was diverted via the Chakradharpur-Raj Kharsawan-Nayagarh-Jharsuguda route instead of the Chakradharpur-Rourkela-Jharsuguda route.
Further, the Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Express (12871) was short-terminated at Chakradharpur while the Kantabanji-Howrah Ispat Express (22862) was short-terminated at Rourkela. Before the diversion of the trains was announced, the long-distance trains, including the Rajendranagar-Durg South Bihar Express, were regulated at different stations between Tatanagar and Rourkela.
The senior divisional commercial manager couldn't be reached for comment while a middle-rung official at Tatanagar said work is on for early restoration of the services.
"Our guest are travelling on the Gitanjali Express. The train has been diverted. Let’s see when they arrive," said Sadanand Das, who was at ticket counter at Tatanagar station when the railway announced regulation of different trains earlier in the day.

Yatri mobile app to give alerts about cancelled suburban train on WR routes
Commuters can receive advance information and personalized notifications about train cancellations through the Yatri mobile application due to construction work on the Western Railways 6th line between Khar and Goregaon. Over 2,500 services will be canceled from October 27 to November 5. The app will provide updates on train cancellation status for the next day and send customized notifications for users' favorite trains. Additionally, users can check the daily cancellation status and access information from the dedicated "Commute News" section. This aims to simplify commute planning for users.
Platform slab works for six stations on Thane-Bhiwandi Metro route complete
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has finished constructing the platform slabs for all the Metro stations along the Thane-Bhiwandi route. This marks a significant step towards completing the project, including track works. The Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan corridor, also known as Metro Line 5, covers an elevated route and includes six stations. The MMRDA has been expediting work on all Metro lines in accordance with their "catch-up plan," with approximately 81.5% of Phase 1's civil work, 77% of the station work, and 83% of the viaduct work already completed.
