JAMSHEDPUR: In a bid to provide hands-on training to the prospective engineers and groom them in exploring start-ups, the National Institute of Technology (NIT-Jamshedpur) on Tuesday signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB), the representational body of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) pan India.

"Rapid changes are taking place in the technology-driven contemporary engineering industry. Industrial exposure in needed to strike a balance between the academics and practical work," said Gautam Sutradhar, the director of NIT, adding, "Adityapur is a hub of MSME industries, and we need infrastructural support to realise the start-up ideas of our students."

NIT spokesperson Sunil Bhagat said, "We will partner with the Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA). Negotiations are underway to ink similar pacts with the heavy industries operating in the three districts of Kolhan division."

The college would provide on-the-job training to students to impart "practical lessons" to them about the subject area, he stated.

LUB state president Hans Raj Jain said industry is welcome to skill up the students with the required on-the-job knowledge.

ASIA president Santosh Khetan said the NIT students should tap into the entrepreneurs' interest in putting money in new business ideas.
