Dengue on rise in state capital, E S’bhum dists, admins on alert
Jamshedpur/Ranchi: In the wake of increasing dengue cases in the district, East Singbhum administration has issued directives for residents to fight the spread of the vector-borne disease. Appealing to people to follow the steps, DC, Vijaya Jadhav, said that self-awareness and self-care is the best way to avert contracting dengue and chikungunya. She further said that dengue is caused through the bites of infected Aedes species mosquito.The people should not overlook high fever, joint pain, muscle pain, as these ailments could be the symptoms of dengue and chikungunya.“The person should immediately consult a doctor on experiencing the symptoms of vector-borne disease,” she said.District civil surgeon, Dr Jujhar Majhi said that all government and private hospitals have been asked to ensure timely testing of the blood sample of the dengue suspects. “Besides, hospitals have been directed to inform the district surveillance department immediately upon detection of dengue positive cases,” said Majhi.The district has reported 23 dengue cases so far between June and July 16 besides a sample of a suspected case has been sent to the microbiology department of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) for examination.In Ranchi too, cases of vector-borne diseases, mainly dengue, have started to surface, said health officials. Although, the number of cases is currently low, the civic authorities have upped their guards to prevent it from spreading any further in the state capital, they added.Rims hospital’s PRO Dr Rajeev Ranjan said, “Two dengue patients have been admitted to the hospital. One was discharged on Monday morning, while the other was admitted in the evening.”Ranchi civil surgeon Dr Vinod Kumar said, “I do not have any idea of patients admitted at Sadar hospital at the moment, but medical teams are well-prepared to handle potential emergencies and are equipped to provide necessary healthcare services.”On the other hand, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) claimed that it has kick-started door-to-door campaign in all wards of the city for effective vector control by administering larvicide through fogging machines. Officials said that each ward has been provided with five handheld spray machines, while additional six cold-fogging machines will move from ward to ward to carry out fogging.Sheetal Kumari, RMC assistant administrator, talking to TOI two days ago said that they have collaborated with health department for vector control exercise. According to the health department data, in Ranchi district, 201 samples had positive results out of 1.2 lakh samples collected. In all, 46 of these cases were dengue, 53 chikungunya and 35 malaria among the samples analysed till May.
