JAMMU: Vaishno Devi Yatra in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir has been resumed after temporarily suspension on late Friday evening due to heavy rain which triggered flash floods in the region.

A Shri Mata Vaishno devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) official said, "In wake of heavy rainfall, upward movement of pilgrims to Vaishno Devi was halted from base camp Katra town late yesterday night."

"The priority given to pilgrims coming downwards,” the Shrine Board Official added.

Official added that the movement of yatra in the hostile weather condition was conducted watchfully towards Sanjhichatt and then Katra under supervision of Shrine Board staff, police and CRPF troops and their officials.

"Meanwhile, additional chief executive officer Navneet remained stationed at the Bhawan to closely monitor the smooth and safe flow of yatra," the official said.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Reasi Amit Gupta told that the yatra to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district was temporarily suspended on Friday late evening following heavy rain. "Heavy rains lashed Katra and holy shrine in Trikuta hills for several hours in the evening triggered flash floods and also shooting stones/landslides at some points. The water also gushed into the track to shrine compelling the authorities to suspend the yatra as a precautionary measure till 5am on Saturday."

SSP Reasi said, "Yatra now has resumed and is proceeding smoothly under close watch."

Chief executive officer of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Anshul Garg said the situation was under control and there was no report of any casualty or damage.
