JKGF associate held, terror hideout busted in Poonch

Jammu: In a joint operation, security forces arrested a terrorist associate of the banned Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) in Poonch district on Thursday evening, while a terror hideout was busted in another operation in the same district, but the terrorists managed to flee.Sharing details of the arrest, a police spokesperson said a joint party of J&K Police, Army’s 16 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF 38 battalion, during a checking drive at Potha bypass, noticed a person coming from Surankote in a suspicious manner. They apprehended him and searched a bag that he was carrying. Three HE-36 hand grenades, explosive substances and other incriminating materials were found in the bag, the spokesperson said.The man, identified as Mohammad Shabir son of Daryala-Nowshera area, was in touch with a PoK-based handler, Azim Khan alias Mudeer, who directed him to collect the consignment from Surankote town, the officer said. JKGF, formed with highly trained cadres drawn from terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, was banned on Feb 17, 2023.In the Jammu division, JKGF first marked its presence when its two Pakistan-based heavily armed cadres were eliminated on Dec 14, 2020 and one terrorist was captured by the security forces. The outfit claimed to have carried out a grenade blast at a police post in Jammu’s Ramban district on Aug 2, 2022. JKGF carried out grenade attacks as well as triggered IED blasts, targeting police and paramilitary forces as well as Hindu religious places, mainly in Ramban and Poonch districts.In another incident on Thursday evening, a joint team of Army, CRPF and J&K Police, after receiving a specific input, launched a cordon and search operation and busted a terrorist hideout in the general area of Surankote in Poonch. There was a brief exchange of fire, but the terrorists managed to flee, taking advantage of the thick forest cover. The forces seized a large amount of arms, ammunition and eatables from the hideout, a police spokesperson said. Additional forces were sent and a major search operation launched to track the terrorists.

Two terrorists neutralised by Army in J&K's Nowshera

Acting on intelligence inputs, the Indian Army neutralized two terrorists in Rajouri's Nowshera area. A significant cache of weapons was seized during the operation. This incident occurs just before Jammu and Kashmir's first assembly elections since 2014, which are scheduled to start later this month.

Two terrorists killed during encounter with security forces in J&K's Udhampur

Two Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces near the Kathua-Basantgarh border in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. One more terrorist is believed to be trapped. The joint operation by the Army and local police continues, with additional personnel dispatched to neutralize the militants.
