Criminal held with arms in J&K’s Samba

Jammu: A criminal was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district and an illegal pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession on Friday, officials here said.The accused, Mohd Latief alias Latief Punjabi of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, was arrested during checking at Chak Dayala near Basantar bridge, the officials said.According to the officials, Latief is named in multiple criminal cases of attempt to murder, theft, rioting, abetment and under Arms Act in Samba and Punjab."Team intercepted a man moving near Basantar bridge in a suspicious circumstance. He was stopped and checked. One pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession," police said.A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway, the police said. PTI

Twin murder accused acquitted in arms case

Double murder accused Vijay Palande was acquitted of an Arms Act case by a magistrate's court in Mumbai, twelve years after being booked for possessing 12 live rounds of ammunition at his Andheri home. Palande claimed that the police falsely implicated him and planted the evidence during his custody period in 2012.

Illegal arms supplier from Ludhiana held in VHP leader murder case

An illegal arms dealer from Ludhiana, Dharminder Kumar, was arrested by the NIA with Delhi Police for his involvement in VHP leader Vikas Bagga's murder. He procured weapons from MP and supplied them to shooters on instructions from a foreign-based terrorist. Two other accused are still at large with a cash reward announced for their capture.
