3 tiger cubs, one of them white, born at Nahargarh zoo

Jaipur: Nahargarh Biological Park (NBP) welcomed three tiger cubs born early Friday morning, raising the number of big cats in the zoo from four to seven.Born to tigress Rani, two of the cubs are Royal Bengal tigers while the third is an albino. “The three cubs and tigress Rani are doing well. The cubs are kept with their mother and are under constant supervision of the veterinarians at the zoo,” said NBP director Jagdish GuptaRani was brought to NBP from Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar in 2021. She was paired with Shiva, who was brought from Gandhi Zoological Park in Gwalior in 2022. “Both Rani and Shiva are Royal Bengal tigers with vibrant yellow fur,” Gupta said.If the three newborns survive, visitors to NBP can see a white tiger for the first time. “The reason behind the third cub having translucent fur is that it lacks the melanin pigment known as pheomelanin, which is found in Bengal tigers with orange fur. A white tiger is a mutant form of Royal Bengal tigers,” said Gupta.
