JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government is in talks with private airline - IndiGO - to bring back Rajasthanis stranded in violence-hit Manipur. As per estimates, there are around 100-125 Rajasthanis, including students who are currently stranded in Imphal and other areas.
“Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has expressed concern and the state government is committed to ensure the safety of its citizens in the conflict zone. Chief secretary Usha Sharma and I had personally spoken to IndiGO to operate a flight to Jaipur to bring the Rajasthanis back,” Dhiraj Srivastava, resident commissioner (Bikaner House) in New Delhi & the commissioner of Rajasthan Foundation, told TOI. He added, “If a special flight to Jaipur is not possible, at least IndiGo should fly them to Guwahati or Kolkata.”
For the last few days, an ethnic violence has engulfed Manipur. More than 50 people have been killed in this violence. Although unofficial sources have placed the death toll at over a hundred and the number of injured at nearly 200. Meanwhile, the Bikaner House Resident Commissioner’s Office in New Delhi in coordination with the Rajasthan Foundation has launched helpline numbers for those in need of any assistance or information.
Those who require assistance can contact the helpline numbers at 0141-2229111, 011-23070807 and +91-83060 09838. “The Resident Commissioner’s office is collaborating with the Ministry of Home Affairs and local authorities to offer support and make necessary arrangements for the stranded Rajasthanis,” a press release issued by the government stated.
