ALWAR: A six-year-old girl, who fell into a 900ft deep borewell at Bairair village under the Rajgarh police station area in
Alwar
district on Tuesday evening, has not been rescued till late Wednesday evening.
Personnel from civil defence agencies, the
Public Health Engineering Department
(PHED),
National Disaster Relief Force
(NDRF) and
State Disaster Relief Force
(SDRF) along with the local police are engaged in the rescue operation.
Rescue teams have to pull out the girl who has been trapped at a depth of nearly 110ft in the borewell with a total depth of nearly 900ft.
The ill-fated girl,
Komal Meena
, was playing near the uncovered borewell and fell into it. Soon after the incident, some children, including her brother, raised an alarm, informed her parents and alerted nearby localities.
To find out the girl's exact location, villagers inserted a rope and found the child trapped at a depth of nearly 110ft.
A team of senior police officers, PHED engineers, civil defence teams and others reached the spot at 10pm on Tuesday and started the rescue operation. However, due to poor light they were unable to carry on. Due to the hard earth, it was difficult for JCB machines to dig a parallel pit.
"We were not able to make out any movement by the girl. Initially, the camera which we inserted into the borewell could not trace her properly. Later, we poured a little water which gave us some idea about her," said Suresh Khinchi, additional superintendent of police, Alwar.
But the rescue teams have not managed to start digging till late Wednesday evening and they are now looking at other possibilities to save the trapped girl.
"Digging has not begun so far as we are exploring possibilities at rescuing her directly with other devices used in such situations," said Rajeev Rahar, SHO of Rajgarh police station.
Ghanshyam Meena, the grandfather of the girl, who spoke to TOI, said, "She was last seen playing. Her mother is lying unconscious. We are praying for her safety."
