Open drain outside Jagatpura mall poses daily hazard
Jaipur: An open drain and accumulated garbage outside Capital Mall on Mahal Road in Jagatpura have become a persistent concern for residents, commuters, and shopkeepers, who say the stretch outside the commercial complex has turned into a safety hazard, especially during the rainy season.
The issue came into focus again after Saturday’s rain, when a car got stuck near the drain amid slush and accumulated waste. The vehicle had to be towed out, drawing attention to what locals describe as a long-standing problem.
Residents and business owners said vehicles frequently get trapped along the stretch, while pedestrians often find it difficult to navigate the area safely.
A shopkeeper at the mall said repeated complaints to authorities have failed to yield a lasting solution. "We have raised the matter several times, but nothing has changed. Customers visiting the mall face inconvenience, and the condition of the area leaves a poor impression," he said.
Rakesh Sharma, a resident, said the uncovered drain poses a constant risk to commuters. "The situation becomes worse whenever it rains. People have slipped here before, and vehicles often get stuck because the edge of the drain is not clearly visible," he said.
Another shopkeeper, Ankit Jain, said waterlogging during rains makes the stretch even more dangerous. "Once water starts accumulating, it becomes difficult for motorists to judge where the road ends and the drain begins. Preventive measures should be taken before the monsoon sets in," he said.
Residents said the issue has persisted for a long time despite repeated complaints and urged civic authorities to cover the drain and ensure regular cleaning of the area to prevent accidents and improve sanitation.
