Monsoon likely to enter Rajasthan around June 24
Jaipur: Southwest monsoon is likely to enter Rajasthan around June 24, with a delay from the normal onset date. Met Office, Jaipur, Monday said that there will be an increase in pre-monsoon activity across the state from June 15 onwards.
However, on Monday, many places in the state witnessed a rise in their maximum and minimum temperatures.
The Met Office further said that with the start of pre-monsoon activity from mid-June, thunderstorm and rainfall incidents across Rajasthan are expected to increase. “If current weather conditions remain favourable, the southwest monsoon is expected to enter the state around June 24 and gradually advance across Rajasthan during the final week of the month, bringing widespread rainfall and significant relief from the prolonged summer heat,” said an officer.
While several areas in the Alwar and Bharatpur divisions witnessed dust storms, strong winds and light to moderate rainfall during the afternoon, temperatures remained high in western districts Monday.
Sri Ganganagar emerged as the hottest place in the state at 45.6°C, followed by Phalodi (44.8°C), Bikaner and Jaisalmer (44.0°C each), Pilani (43.8°C) and Churu (43.5°C).
Rainfall activity remained scattered. Kota recorded the highest rainfall at 34.8 mm, followed by Ajmer with 8.2 mm and Bikaner with 3.2 mm. Light showers were also reported from Dungarpur and Dausa, while Jaipur recorded trace rainfall.
Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 40.1°C and a minimum of 27.2°C, with partly cloudy conditions prevailing through the day. Similar temperatures were recorded in Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara and Kota, where cloud cover helped keep daytime temperatures below seasonal averages.
