Jaipur: Councillors meet state minister to complain against municipal commissioner

JAIPUR: Councillors of the

Jaipur Municipal Corporation

(JMC) met

UDH minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal

on Thursday complaining about few decisions recently taken by

JMC commissioner Vijay Pal Singh

. Despite the

Model Code of Conduct

in place, Singh reportedly gave charge of higher posts to junior officials bypassing senior officials.

Councillors said this is an arbitrary move by the commissioner to favour a few officials. The issue is that a junior engineer was given charge of executive engineer and a revenue inspector a charge of a revenue officer. Both the officials already have many senior officials above them who were overlooked.

Bhagwat Singh Deval, chairman of the building planning committee at JMC who was also amongst the councillors who met minister said “This is an arbitrary decision taken by the JMC commissioner Vijay Pal Singh. Many senior officials were there who were overlooked. This is injustice and it is a misuse of power given under model code of conduct.”

Senior officials at JMC were not happy with the decision. Though no one had registered any complaint against the JMC commissioner directly in low tone they have opposed the decision.

Another councillor said that corruption charge was also made against the junior engineer given charge of the executive engineer and an

ACB inquiry

is also registered against him. This is one of the rare incidences when such decision was taken.

By the evening, after many raised opposition and pressure from the upper level of ministry, V.P.Singh finally took back his order. TOI tried to contact the JMC commissioner many times but received no response.
