Illegal hoardings, encroachments under traffic police scanner

Jaipur: Motorists troubled by traffic jams, poor traffic management and illegal hoardings at busy intersections in the city may soon get some relief, with the traffic police launching a special drive to improve conditions at key junctions.

Under the campaign, traffic inspectors and senior police officers have been assigned specific intersections to monitor traffic movement and supervise improvement work. The initiative aims to make major junctions safer, more organised and commuter-friendly.

DCP (Traffic) Yogesh Goyal directed officials to conduct regular inspections and submit progress reports. Traffic conditions, civic issues and ongoing improvement work at major intersections will be reviewed continuously, while officials have been asked to ensure there is no delay or negligence in execution.

As part of the drive, illegal hoardings, banners and posters installed near intersections and major roads will be removed. Traffic police officials said such hoardings often obstruct visibility and distract motorists, increasing the risk of accidents. The removal work is being carried out with support from the Jaipur Municipal Corporation.

Authorities will also remove encroachments, debris and garbage from footpaths and free left-turn lanes to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. Damaged or faded directional boards at intersections will be replaced with new reflective signage.

To improve road safety at night, fresh road markings and reflector strips will be installed on the dividers. The traffic police will also focus on improving the overall appearance of major intersections by repairing railings and dividers.
