Heat wave scorches Rajasthan; JMC-H sprinkles water on Jaipur roads
Roads in the city wore a deserted look in the afternoon as many people preferred to stay indoors in their homes and offices. The city traffic police have already erected green nets at traffic signals to provide shade to commuters waiting there.
The heat wave conditions led to abrupt power outages in many parts of the city, especially in the colonies around Sikar Road, Kalwar Road, Tonk Road and at Mansarovar.
The Met office said there will be no respite from the scorching heat conditions till May 22 as the temperatures will continue to rise across the state, especially in western Rajasthan. Radhey Shyam Sharma, director of the Met office in Jaipur, said that the state is currently in the grip of severe heat wave conditions, with maximum temperatures recorded at various places being almost three degrees above the normal.
Amid heat wave, political temperature of war of words rises in Haryana
Lok Sabha candidates in Haryana engage in heated personal attacks amid rising temperatures. Jai Prakash questions Ranjit Singh Chautala's loyalty at Samrat hotel, while opponents label Naveen Jindal as 'koyla chor' (coal thief) and Mahendra Pratap Singh as 'corruption pal' for Krishan Pal Singh.
Heat wave is linked to record global temperatures and waning El Ninos influence on wind circulation over Indian landmass
India faces an unprecedented heat wave, linked to record global temperatures and a waning El Nino. Climate change manifests in extreme temperatures and irreversible outcomes like shrinking glaciers and sea level rise. Other concerns include air and water pollution, biodiversity loss, and ocean acidification.
Green Nets Offering Respite From Heat At Traffic Signals
Nagpur Municipal Corporation installs green nets at key intersections, including RBI Square and GPO Square, to provide shade to motorists during the scorching summer heat of Nautapa. Ravindra Bundhade oversees the project, with the MahaMetro line also contributing to relief along specific routes.
