Applicants will have the option of choosing whether they want a smart card or not while filling the form, both when they apply for a licence or registration certificate of the vehicle. Officials said that till now, customers were paying Rs 200, as charges for the smart card, which they can now save with the online option.

The electronic version of the document can be downloaded from mParivahan application and will be considered valid by transport authorities, said officials.

"Till now, people were issued chip-based or QR code based smart cards when they applied for licence or registration certificates. But from April 1, e-licences and e-registration will be considered valid across the state. With this, applicants will be able to save Rs 200. When traffic authorities check for the documents from drivers, they will consider a document valid only when the same details will be visible on the mParivahan databased that they can also access," said Kanhaiya Lal Swami, commissioner for transport department Rajasthan.

Commuters can download the online document and keep a printout while travelling. The document will have a QR code, which the authorities can scan to check if it is valid. Officials said an online system is being developed to ensure the state transport receives the money for challans issued by the authorities.
