Ex-Cong MP Pannu, 3 ex-MLAs join BJP

Jaipur: Former Congress MP from Ganganagar, Shankar Pannu, along with three former MLAs and 314 others, joined BJP in Jaipur on Wednesday.

“I served Congress as a loyal soldier. However, Congress doesn’t treat honest workers well. Politics within Congress revolves around one family. Hence, there is dwindling interest in working for Congress. Its demise seems inevitable,” said Pannu, who was denied a Lok Sabha poll ticket by Congress.

The three former MLAs, Nand Kishore Maharia, Shimla Bavri, and JP Chandeliya, who joined BJP, expressed confidence in PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.

“The BJP-led double-engine government has effectively addressed the water crisis in Shekhawati through the Yamuna water agreement. I believe BJP is capable of comprehensive development in the region,” said Mahariya, a former BJP MLA who had shifted to JJP to contest the 2023 assembly polls.

Bavri, a BJP MLA in 2013 from Anoopgarh, had crossed over to Congress and served as a party MLA from 2018 to 2023. Chandeliya was a Congress MLA in 2018.

“People from all walks of life are deserting Congress and joining BJP. While Congress seems focused on dividing the nation, PM Modi leads with the vision of 'Nation First’,” said former Rajasthan BJP president Arun Chaturvedi, who serves as the coordinator of the joining committee.
