Dengue cases double this year

Jaipur: In comparison to corresponding period of 2017 till August, this year more than double the

dengue cases

have been reported. In 2017, while 818

dengue

cases were reported till August this year 2,089 persons were diagnosed with dengue till August. However,

health department

claimed that they have taken timely measures and prevented dengue from spreading further.

“There is no significant increase in dengue cases in August. We have taken preventive measures. Last year in August 497 cases of dengue were reported but this year, we have managed to bring it down to 228, which is less than half of the cases we reported in August last year,” said Ravi Prakash Mathur, additional director (rural health), health department.

In winters, the cases of dengue were reported in increased numbers. In the first three months this year, the state had reported 934 cases of dengue. But in the corresponding period last year, there were 78 persons who tested positive for dengue. Dealing with the new trend of reporting dengue cases in winters, the health department had to launch campaign ‘Swasthya Dal Aapke Dwar’ under which the health department officials conducted door-to-door survey of houses and prevented

mosquito breeding

by conducting anti-larvae activities.

In 2018, the dengue cases are constantly being reported. Even in summers, the cases were reported in increased numbers. In May and June, there were 76 persons who were diagnosed with dengue in 2017 but this year, 488 persons tested positive for the disease.

When the cases kept reporting in summers, the health department launched ‘Mera Ganv Swasth Ganv’.

Following cases constantly being reported, the health department took preventive measures and declared dengue as a notifiable disease. Also, the health department continued conducting campaigns through inter-sectoral coordination. In July, it launched ‘Hamara Swasthya Hamari Zimmedari’.

The health department officials claimed that they have managed to prevent spread of the disease.
