Rajasthan election results 2018: Congress pips BJP in battle of scions
JAIPUR: The two major political parties in Rajasthan, BJP and Congress, fielded candidates from political families in the recently held assembly polls.
While the dynasty politics favoured the Congress candidates, majority of whom won, the result was contradictory in case of the gen-next nominees of BJP.
BJP candidates like Golma Devi who is wife of Rajya Sabha member Kirori Lal Meena, Ritu Banawat, wife of Yuva Morcha leader Rishi Bansal and eight others faced defeat with only a couple of victories.
While Devi and Banawat lost in Sapotra in Karauli and Bayana in Bharatpur districts, other candidates fielded by BJP who were at the losing end were Ram Singh Kaswa from Sadulpur in Churu, Poonam Kanwar from Kolayat in Bikaner, Hemant Meena from Pratapgarh and Mohit Yadav from Behror in Alwar. The only winning candidates in this list were Ramswaroop Lamba who is the son of late BJP leader Sanwarlal Jat and won from Nasirabad in Ajmer by defeating Congress’s Ramnarain. The other winning candidate is Manjeet Choudhary, son of late BJP MLA Dharampal Choudhary who defeated BSP’s Lalit Yadav in Mundawar. On the other hand, the Congress scions of the political families managed to win in most of the constituencies from which they contested the assembly election including prominent names like Sachin Pilot who won from Tonk.
Danish Abrar, son of Congress leader Ahmad Abrar, got a comfortable win in Sawai Madhopur.
Divya Maderna, granddaughter of former Congress minister and speaker Parasram Maderna, also claimed victory in Osian in Jodhpur district. Out of the 13 gen-next candidates fielded by Congress only three nominees-Vidhyadhar Chaudhary from Phulera in Jaipur, Kanta Bheel from Garhi in Bansawara and Ramnarain from Nasirabad in Ajmer were unable to win.
