JAIPUR: Even as the new government pledged top priority to women's safety, a 25-year-old woman was murdered and her friend injured after a man mowed them down with his SUV following a row inside a hotel on Girdhar Marg in Malviya Nagar on Tuesday morning.
The Jawahar Circle Police Station SHO Dalbeer Singh said the accused, identified as Haryana native Mangesh Arora, fled in his SUV after the incident. He is said to be in the garment business.
While the victim, identified as Uma Suthar and a native of Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh, is said to have been working in event management in Jaipur, her friend Raj Kumar Singh was injured and admitted to a nearby hospital.
Police said the murder took place around 5.30am. As per the FIR, Raj had gone to the hotel at 10pm on Monday with his friend Sutthar to check on an ongoing work for a rooftop restaurant.
The two later went to have dinner at the hotel's restaurant, where Arora was sitting at a table with his girlfriend and drinking for nearly an hour, as per Raj's statement to the police.
Cops trying to identify suspects from CCTVPolice are tracking down the suspects based on the vehicle number given by the victim. “We are trying to identify the suspects with the help of CCTV footage. Our teams are also checking CCTV footages of previous heists to see if same gangs are involved in the crime,” a police officer said. This is not the first such incident of a brazen chain-snatching reported from the city. A 54-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries in October, sustained while trying to defending herself from two bike-borne criminals who attempted to steal her purse in the Muhana area of the city.
