4 held after exchange of fire with police in Sikar

police have arrested three wanted criminals, along with a firearms dealer, who fired at policemen in Neem Ka Thana late on Friday night. Cops have recovered a cache of weapons from the accused and officials claimed that the four persons were apprehended before they could execute a crime that they had planned.

“We received information that four to five suspicious persons had been spotted at Neem ka Thana-Mawanda Road on Friday who also had weapons with them. A team was constituted to investigate the matter. When the team reached the location where the accused had been seen and surrounded them, they started firing at us in panic. We also returned fire and arrested all four of them,” said a police official.

Cops also recovered seven country-made pistols, 25 cartridges, two empty shell casings and two motorcycles.

The accused were identified as Guru Dev (35) who hails from Alwar and is a known arms dealer along with Pradeep Gurjar (22), Vinod Gurjar (19) as well as Babulal Meena (24). The latter three also had a cash reward of Rs 10,000 on each of them.

During interrogation, cops found that previously the accused had been involved in a bank loot in Alwar, firing at police in Chandwaji area of Jaipur and petrol pump loot in Sikar amongst others. “It appears that the accused was in the area to carry out a criminal conspiracy but were caught before they could actually follow through with it. We will question them further to get the details of the possible crime which they had planned,” said the official.

A case under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and Arms Act has been registered.
