3 dead, 9 injured as tempo cruiser rams truck on Jaipur-Sikar highway
Jaipur: Three pilgrims from Maharashtra were killed and nine others injured after a tempo cruiser rammed into a truck on the Jaipur-Sikar National Highway (NH-52) near Chomu Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Shalu Bai (75), Megha (40), and Adesh (18), who died on the spot. All three were residents of Harangul village in the Gangakhed area of Parbhani district in Maharashtra. Their bodies were shifted to the mortuary of the Chomu Govt Hospital.
The accident occurred near Byauria Kat close to the Chomu Stadium area around 7 am when the truck allegedly took a sudden left turn, causing the vehicle coming from behind to crash into it.
“The devotees, mainly women, were travelling from Maharashtra to visit Khatu Shyamji in Sikar. The impact of the collision was so severe that the cruiser veered off the road and crashed into a roadside hotel-restaurant, badly damaging another parked car. Parts of the vehicle were scattered across the spot,” said a senior police officer of Chomu police station.
Meanwhile, police have identified the injured as Geeta Devdhar (22), Gayatri Devdhar (22), Khushi Jawde (18), Ankita (11), Ritesh (22), Hrishikesh (21), Shakuntala (75), Sunita (54), and Yashoda (44). All of them belong to Nanalpeth area of Parbhani district. Some of them are stated to be in serious condition and are undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals.
Police have removed the damaged vehicles from the highway with the help of cranes and restored traffic movement.
Later in the day, Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde visited the injured passengers at RK Fracture Hospital in Chomu. He enquired about their condition and directed doctors to ensure proper medical treatment for all the injured devotees.
