INDORE: The last rites of
Ghanshyam Dhakad
, the youth who died during custody of
Mandsaur's Bhaugarh police
, were performed at his native village Barvan under tight police security on Saturday.
State government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to Dhakad's kin, after the family staged a protest with his body and demanded they should be given same compensation as declared for the five persons killed in police firing in Pipliamandi.
Dhakad, 30, was picked up by the police near Bhaugarh Panta area of Dalauda town on June 8. He was rushed to MY Hospital in Indore on the same night and was declared brought dead. His death has sparked off fresh protests in Dalauda area of Mandsaur.
His body was taken to
Barvan village
in the morning and handed over to his family members. A large contingent of police was deployed in the area to prevent any flare-up.
A large crowd gathered and accused police of beating Dhakad to death. The sought Rs 1 crore compensation, following which senior officials, including Mandsaur district collector OP Shrivastava and SP Manoj Kumar Singh, spoke to the chief minister's office.
Shrivastava later told reporters that the kin of the deceased would be provided Rs 1 crore as compensation, as announced by the state government for the five other victims.
A member of his family would be given a government job, he added.
Dhakad's death had led to gathering of large crowd in Dalauda on Friday, but police had reached the spot in strength and brought the situation under control.
