Indore: City Kotwali police have arrested four members of a runaway bride gang, including a husband-wife duo, in a seven-month-old case of loot and cheating registered in Mandsaur.
The accused were identified as Pooja alias Durgesh Ahirwar, her husband Rajesh Ahirwar, who are kingpin of the gang, her sister-in-law Roshni Ahirwar and another relative Jiya Ahirwar, City Kotwali police station in-charge Amit Soni said.
The police were searching for them for the last seven months after arresting three others in April on the complaint of Shyamlal Maheshwari. They got a tip off that four accused were roaming in a four-wheeler in the area. Subsequently, they were arrested.
The incident took place in April when the gang members met family of Shyamlal residing in Satyamnagar colony in the area. Shyamlal was searching for a bride for his son Praveen. Shyamlal then met Mangladevi of Ratlam.She fixed a meeting with Pooja and bride Aarti on April 16. They then left Aarti at Shyamlal’s house in the name of preparation for marriage, police said.
On April 18, when Shyamlal and others went to market for marriage’s shopping, Aarti spiked the drink of her would-be sister-in-law Priyanka and then ran away with Rs one lakh and jewellery from the spot, police said.
A case under section 420,380,328, 120 B of IPC for cheating, conspiracy, and others was registered, police said.
